"How will you escape being condemned to hell?"

“Now!” Boss ordered.

Jones took the keys and went to the car, opened the trunk and started the engine.

Moments later, the trunk slammed shut. “Drive!”

Dark empty streets greeted the speeding car.

“Cameras.” Jones covered his face with the bandanna he carried around his neck.

Speed cameras flashed as they flew down the expressway. Adrenaline, testosterone and fear shivered in the air, and Jones turned the Air-conditioner on. The nervous movements of the backseat passengers told him that something had gone wrong. A pair of headlights dazzled in the rear-view mirror.

“Cops.” Jones glanced at Boss.

“Sure?”

“Yep. Unmarked.”

“Lose ‘em.”

Jones kept the same speed, 150, while he went through the map in his mind.

“For fuck’s sake!” The backseat goon pounded the driver’s seat. “Drive!”

“Stop or you die.” Jones lifted his foot from the pedal, and the car slowed.

“Fuck!” The goon did not touch the seat again. “Fuck!”

“Well?” Boss glanced at Jones and then over his shoulder.

“Kill him.”

“The cops.” Boss’ voice demanded answers.

“No exits.”

“It’s not worth 10 fucking k,” the goon moaned.

The expressway curved, and they picked up speed. The headlights disappeared for a moment and reappeared far behind them at the next straight. Another curve and the distance between them grew. They flew past an exit and then another.

“Idiot!” The goon cried.

The road curved again. Jones hit the brakes and turned through on an emergency crossing. They rolled down a narrow private road with the lights off. The cops flashed by on the expressway, and Jones turned the light on. They passed an abandoned house and turned out on a back road with cracked asphalt. Jones hit the gas and they flew through the night, to safety.

“This is what I pay for,” Boss chuckled.
